Fall 2009 practice test 3 with my work

We didn't finish 7.1 in class. I will start next class with a discussion about solving systems of linear equations with 3 variables and 3 equations.  It would be great if you looked at these first so it will make a bit more sense.

Spiritual Thought:
D&C 88:
42 And again, verily I say unto you, he hath given a alaw unto all things, by which they move in their btimes and their seasons;
43 And their courses are fixed, even the courses of the heavens and the earth, which comprehend the earth and all the planets.
44 And they give alight to each other in their times and in their seasons, in their minutes, in their hours, in their days, in their weeks, in their months, in their years—all these are bone year with God, but not with man.

Sorry I wasn't in class on Thurs. I hope everything went well. Here are a few things you can use to study if you weren't able to make it to class either.

Sometimes it helps when doing conic sections to understand what the graphs look like and how conic sections are formed. Here's a few videos you can use to help you.

We will spend one more day on conic sections talking about hyperbolas and ellipses on tues. Study up.

Overview of class 5.7 and 5.8

Here's the link for the powerpoint get it
I also used some parts of this powerpoint get it here

Here's the handouts:
5.7 handout
5.8 handout

Check out some of the links I used in class for videos and the interest calculator on CNN
CNN debt reduction calculator

Video on debt

Video on uninhibited growth

Main point of today's lesson is: there's a reason why we are told to avoid debt. Interest is an example of exponential growth. This section is about compound interest. If you learned anything today from class I hope it is to think smart about your purchases and determine whether or not the things you put on a credit card are worth carrying the debt for so long.

Overview of class 5.6

Spiritual thought: Take care of your physical bodies. Get lots of sleep, exercise, and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Here's a recipe that I use to give myself and my children lots of fruits and vegies.

Purple Blast:
2 cups grape juice
1 cup water
1 banana
1 big bunch of red chard (approx. 7 giant leaves)
1 T alfalfa powder
1 cup spinach
2 cups frozen blueberries
1 cup frozen strawberries

Today we covered solving log equations.

We started class with the error analysis problems. See if you can locate the errors.

We didn't quite finish up the handout but see if you can.

overview of class on 5.3 Exponentials

Spiritual Thought: watch it here

Here's the opener we started with that reviewed last section:

Here's the handout from class- see if you can get through the whole thing. click here for the handout

Here's the powerpoint but I'm not sure it'll show all of the slides right. I can't figure out why its doing this. powerpoint click here

Warmup for next time:
Next class we'll be going over logarithm functions. Please read through the material. And also if you have an extra minute go to geogebra.org and graph a few exponential functions like

f(x)= (1/2)^x

g(x) = 2^ x
h(x) = (-2)^x

What do you notice about the graphs? Are they all exponential functions?  Which graph represents an exponential decay?
